SERS Trustee Vacancy

Announcement of Active Member Trustee Vacancy

The SERS Board of Trustees is seeking candidates to complete an active member trustee term that ends July 15, 2029.  To be eligible, you must be an active SERS member with at least 8 years of SERS service credit at the time of application.  If you are eligible and interested in applying, you must complete and file a Statement of Candidacy that includes the reason for your interest in the position, a resume’ and petitions with 250 signatures of active contributing SERS members.  You can find the required documents using the links below.  The completed documents must be submitted to the Executive Secretary at the System’s Springfield Office at 2101 S. Veterans Parkway, Springfield, Illinois no later than the close of business on September 20, 2024.

Information submitted by applicants will be reviewed by SERS staff and applicants who meet all requirements will be reviewed by the SERS Board of Trustees at the October 29, 2024, Board meeting.  The active member Trustee may be selected at that meeting or a future meeting.

Trustees serve without compensation but will be reimbursed for expenses incurred for the purpose of attending Board meetings provided that the expenses comply with the standards of the State Travel Board.  The Board meets four times annually in the Springfield Office, with the option of attending via videoconference from a Chicago location.  The Board’s primary responsibilities include approving benefits, reviewing and approving the SERS operations budget, approving the actuarial assumptions and annual actuarial valuation, and certifying the annual State contribution as presented by the consulting actuaries.
